TWENTY-THREE

Dear Readers,

YOUR GIRL IS NOW 23!!!

My 22nd year of living literally felt like a storm. It all happened too quick, and so much has happened. From starting my 22nd year with my friends partying, to falling in love with Jason, to completing my final year of university, expanding my blog, discovering my future, and to travelling Kelowna… all of it happened within 365 days.

TODAY, I still stand the same influential, positive, charismatic, sweet and loving Dezleigh. The recent year taught me how to be braver, and matured me in ways I could never imagine. I learned that sometimes life will get so dark that keeping a positive outlook gets a little tough… yet, I learned that if you surround yourself with people who carry stars on their eyes, and the sun in their hearts… I learned that these people’s light and glow, will lead you out of your darkness.

At 22, I learned how to value my friends, family, and Jason even MORE.

To my friends, I owe them so much for being the support system I needed when I was emotionally drowning. They were my life vessel, that carried me through the days wherein I felt like giving up. Graduating university would never be the same if I didn’t have my friends by my side. My success is partially theirs. I am so blessed to have them in my life.

To my family, I’m so thankful to have such a loving and supportive family like the one I have. My aunts are my first best friends, who only want the best for me. My uncles are my first protectors, who are there to watch over my back. My dad is my idol, who showed me how to live life to the fullest no matter what. Steve is my superhero, who raised me into becoming a strong woman full of wisdom, courage, and bravery. My mom, is a goddess with the power to heal my broken wounds and empower my frightened soul to believe that nothing is impossible if I hustle, pray, and dream. My whole life would be meaningless without my family.

To Jason, throughout this whole year, you were by my side through each chapter – may it be good or bad. I am truly in awe and madly in love with you. You calm my storms, and make my sunny days last longer than normal. Through you, I had gained another family outside my family. Another branch in my family tree has been born because of you. Jonas, is like the brother I never had and your mom is like my second mom who graces me with gentleness and calmness. Above all, you had taught me so many things and I am just so thankful to have you around as I continue on with life.

Now that I’m getting older, each birthday feels a little sadder than the year before. Perhaps, it comes with the sad realization that I’m aging and losing my youthful years. But when I remind myself of all the great memories I made, the accomplishments I earned, the people who love me, and the great life I live – all of these combined makes me so happy and makes me feel so blessed.

This year, I will be travelling to Vegas to celebrate my 23rd birthday. Our Vegas trip is only the first of all the great things to come this year!!!

To my Readers, thank you for keeping up with me throughout the years. Without your support in reading, liking my Instagram photos, and supporting all my content, I wouldn’t be the influential Dezleighh that I am today. Thank you for embarking my life’s journey with me.

I pray that all my plans, goals, and dreams will come true in my 23rd year of life.

5 Ways to Fall in Love in Kelowna

Dear Readers

After many months of patiently waiting, Jason and I finally went on our first vacation as a couple!!!

WE WENT TO KELOWNA!!!!

If you follow my Instagram, you already know that Jason and I spent a week at Kelowna along with my family and Jason’s little brother, Jonas. Kelowna is perhaps my favorite Canadian city during the summer. WHY?

BECAUSE I FALL IN LOVE WITH KELOWNA EVERY SINGLE TIME I VISIT.

The mountains that surround the massive lakes are a sight to marvel on its own. Add wine to that mix, and you got yourself a romantic place… best part about this year’s Kelowna trip is the fact that the love of my life, mi amor, my langga, my bao bei, was with me the whole time.

You see, falling in love in Kelowna can happen in 5 ways.

1.) Wineries

Did you really go to Kelowna if you didn’t visit at least ONE winery???

If you said NO, then you definitely missed out!!! But if you said YES, then you would know how romantic wineries are. During this trip, Jason and I visited a few wineries, including Mission Hill, Summerhill Pyramid Winery, and Frequency Winery.

I’m not much of a “wine expert”, but I am a TOURIST expert. I didn’t go to these wineries for the wine, to be honest, I was there solely for the view and the ambiance of it all. As Jason and I strolled through each winery, hand in hand, I can feel the pure joy of being in love just swarming my veins and dashing through my soul. Nothing felt better than dragging your partner to corners of the winery just to see a different angle of the marvellous mountains… or perhaps, dragging your partner to the spots wherein the best views can be seen… that on its own is a feeling worth falling in love for. As we soaked up the summer heat, we also soaked up the mesmerizing view of each other being mesmerized of the view in front of us. Jason is quite a view himself, but the view from the wineries I mentioned, are truly one of a kind.

2.) Cherry Picking

Another popular tourist attraction or tourist to-do in Kelowna is to pick cherries or cherry picking!

My little cousin, Aurora, had the best time picking cherries! Look at these photos of her:

But cherry picking is not only fun for kids, it’s also fun for adults! Jason and I truly enjoyed following Aurora around the cherry trees. For each cherry we picked and ate, the sweetness of each cherry can’t compare to the sweetness level of my relationship with Jason. Nothing can compare to the sight of Jason picking up a cherry from the tallest branch, and then giving it to me… the sweetness of each cherry can’t compare to the sweetness of having Jason there to eat and experience these cherries with me. The whole experience wouldn’t had been the same if Jason wasn’t in the picture.

3.) Water Sports

If you’re a couple who are always looking for some thrill, adventure, and fun, then Kelowna is still a perfect place to fall in love at!

This year’s Kelowna trip, Jason and I did some water sports such as tubing and rode like adrenaline junkies in rented sea doos! The adrenaline rush was so addicting!!! I would definitely come back and do all of it again! You should too!

Kelowna is a great place to make memories at. Not only does the place offer amazing views, it’s also a great place to experience new things for the first time. In our case, Jason’s first time tubing and riding/driving the sea doo happened in Kelowna. Since it was his first time trying these fun activities, the experience became a hundred times more memorable. In terms of falling in love, how can you ever forget your firsts???

The memories of trying something new along with the one you love, is better than your typical Friday night date, because you get to create a memory that will last longer than any regular date ever will. I mean, how can you forget that one time you two fell off a tube while being dragged by a boat that’s going 60 km/h… or that one time you saw your family members fall off a sea doo because they were driving too fast… or that one time you drove a sea doo for the first time… these are the type of stories a couple will share with their family, friends, and even strangers, over and over again.

4.) Date Night at Cactus Club Cafe

Jason and I LOVE food.

Food is an important part of our relationship, because we both love to eat!!! A vacation wouldn’t be complete without a private date night (just us two), and good food. So, on the last night of our trip, we left Jonas with my parents and decided to drive to Downtown Kelowna Boardwalk. Around this area, you will find some great restaurants. Of all the great places to eat near the boardwalk, we decided to hit up Cactus Club Cafe because it is located at waterfront. The ambiance of the place was perfect too!!! And the food, well, you can never go wrong with Cactus Club Cafe!

Alone time as a couple is so important during a big family vacation. Dinner dates such as these, can make any place feel a hundred times more surreal. The conversations seem to last a little longer, the food seem to taste a little better, and the person you’re with seem to be placed perfectly in your life… that dinner wouldn’t be the same if it was with someone else. The moments we had shared while we were on our date night at Cactus Club Cafe, was quite special.

5.) Stroll Around Kasugai Gardens

While you’re in the Downtown Kelowna Boardwalk area, make sure to take a quick stroll around Kasugai Gardens.

Nature offers beauty beyond words can ever describe. Gardens offer serenity and a sense of wonder at how beautiful flowers blossom and how green the grasses and leaves can get. While strolling around Kasugai Gardens, the serenity of the place will make you feel even more at peace while you hold your special someone’s hand as tightly as you possibly can. As you stroll around, you will realize that the sense of serenity and ease doesn’t just come from the garden alone… it also comes with the fact that you have someone you love to hold beside you. The peacefulness of the garden was amplified because Jason was there with me. During our stroll at Kasugai Garden, I felt at peace and so relaxed. At that moment, I was not alone… I had someone who loved me and whom I loved back… Being able to share moments like this with each other, is worth falling in love for.

As summer 2018 draws near to an end, I look forward to my future Kelowna summer trips. WHY?

because I want to fall in love over, and over again.

With love,

Mary Dezleigh Teodosio.

The Key to Having a Positive Mind

Dear Readers,

In life, we will have many encounters of feeling down and low. Often than most, we truly need to strengthen our mental outlook of life. In times wherein it gets tougher to be positive, one must always remember that being a negative person does not lead towards anything great. Positivity is the answer to attracting the right people and the right opportunities. A positive mind can generate ideas like none other. A positive mind can empower one towards achieving set goals and dreams. The power of having a positive mind is the strongest superweapon of all.

The topic of keeping a positive mind is so important to me. As I recently shared, I’m going through some trivial moments, as well as transitioning into another chapter of my life (a.k.a being an adult). All of these mixed emotions can create a spur of joy with a sudden burst of fear. Thus, there are times wherein I find myself attracting negative thoughts and negative vibes. Personally, negativity is one giant word and idea I try to avoid at all costs. Negativity has this toll on me, once I let it in, even for a second, my mind’s regular and healthy flow is disrupted. I don’t fear negativity, what I fear the most is losing my positive nature because of it.

Not only do I have to overcome the lurking cancer scare around my family members (see previous post), I also have to overcome my own struggles. As a recent graduate with a degree, I’m facing the common struggles of many post-grads. These concerning issues includes:

-Student loans

-Debt

-Job prospects & security

-Financial capabilities

And many, many, many more. The list can go on for days if I wanted to.

Despite my own share of stress and struggles, I’m forcing myself to maintain my inner positivity and clear state of mind. I want my objectives to remain clear and my focus intact. Throughout the years, I’ve realized that surrounding myself with negativity truly leads to no good. This quote I found online summarizes it all:

706F6AF7-6D53-4D19-90BD-FFFFD15A4D5B

The only thing that negativity has ever brought upon my life is doubt. A positive person knows full well that negative people will use their own doubts to pull them down. A positive person also understands that negativity creates doubt, which leads to fear. To be truly in control of a positive mind, one must understand the power of choice.

Each positive person must understand that they have the power to control their own minds. The freedom to force yourself to believe in the positive sides of life is truly liberating. A positive mind is an optimistic one, that views everything in its good light regardless of all the darkness surrounding it. A positive mind understands the power of training the mind to choose positive thoughts and thinking, rather than its opposite.

For each scenario, there will always be a positive and negative point of views. You see, the balance of life includes both positive and negative aspects. For example, Chinese philosophy highly describes life’s balance through the yin and yang. As famously known, yin and yang explains contradicting opposites as a way to achieve a balance. The circle symbol of a white pole and black pole signifies harmony. Without each opposite, achieving harmony and balance will be difficult. (Jason should really teach me more Chinese – their culture is quite fascinating!)

Now let’s use yin and yang in our positive minds versus negative minds analogy. Here’s an example for you to consider: A recent university graduate.

From our example above there are two possible ways of thinking about this:

1.) A positive mind will view this greatly because a degree means higher education; a higher education means greater opportunities.

2.) A negative mind will view this sadistically, by thinking about the student’s loans and debts.

What if we expand on our example. Now, consider this: A recent university graduate has no debt due to financial awards.

Again, there are two possible ways of thinking about this:

1.) A positive mind will view this greatly because a degree means higher education; a higher education means greater opportunities. Given that the student has no debt, all his/her future salary can be saved for future goals e.i. a house, a car etc.

2.) A negative mind will view this sadistically, even though the student has no accumulated loans. A negative mind will then start to doubt the student’s career options given the competitive nature of the world.

Again, let’s further expand on our example. Consider this: A recent university graduate has no debt due to financial awards. After graduation, the student fails to find a job.

The corresponding ways of thinking about this:

1.) A positive mind will view this greatly because a degree means higher education; a higher education means greater opportunities. Given that the student has no debt, all his/her future salary can be saved for future goals e.i. a house, a car etc. Since the new grad can’t find a position just yet, truly in the near future the perfect opportunity and window will come!

2.) A negative mind will view this sadistically, even though the student has no accumulated loans. A negative mind will then start to be a pessimist about the student’s unemployment given the competitive nature of the world. On top of that, the negative mind will be pleased to know that the student is currently unemployed. The negative mind will continue to doubt.

I think you all get the idea.

The positive mind always focuses on the good things, while the negative mind always lingers around doubt. It’s the yin and yang of life. If there is light, there is also dark. But the best way to live, is by choosing to live in the light while understanding that the darkness exists. For each possible ways of thinking, the positive mind is always optimistic, hopeful, and joyful. On the contrary, the negative mind is always pessimistic, doubtful, and envious. It’s seriously like choosing to be either white and pure OR black and shady. But, be rest assured, in all scenarios of life you have the ability and option to pick and control your state of mind. Your choice of either having a positive mind or a negative mind, is purely under your control.

Choose to be positive.

Choose positivity.

Choose a positive mind.

Because by having a positive mind can take you places you’ve always dreamed of.

With love,

Mary Dezleigh Teodosio
